The MTA Finally Does Something About Security

The MTA is contracting with Lockheed Martin to install security devices and cameras throughout the NYC subway system and other critical transportation infrastructure. The contract is worth more than $200 million.

Why did it take so long for the MTA to act? They've known about threats to the subway system since a plot to bomb NYC subways was thwarted in 1997. Bureaucratic bumbling plays a role (why does that sound familiar?). That, and a continuing blind eye to terrorism and the work of some civil liberties groups that appear to be more concerned for the civil liberties of terrorists than citizens whose human rights might be snuffed out by bombs, chemicals, or other devices.
