And This Is Why You Shouldn't Approach Wild Animals

The stupidity of some people is truly amazing. I've been to Yellowstone National Park and got to see bison up close and personal - from within the confines of my car. I even managed to snap shots of a bison just inches from the side view mirror of the car during a bison jam, and caught video of a similar encounter at night:

Yet, there are people who think that it's a good idea to approach bison or other wild animals without any understanding that these are wild animals and that they can easily gore, trample, or kill someone.

These folks are lucky that they got a good scare and not anything worse.

Memorial Day Weekend 2012

While so many Americans are busy enjoying the weather, grilling and barbequing or watching major sporting events, we should remember what Memorial Day is all about.

All gave some. Some gave all.

Remember those who fought in defense of the nation and those who made the supreme sacrifice. Words cannot fully explain what these men and women have left behind - both in terms of the loss to their family and friends, and what a grateful nation has gained from defending the freedoms that many still take for granted despite being born from the blood, sweat, and tears of these men and women.

So, while many of us sit back and enjoy the barbecues, the Indy 500, baseball, and other sporting events, take a few moments to remember all those who served and made it possible.

I've posted a number of clips showing some of our nation's finest soldiers, sailors, and Marines doing precision maneuvers that they are best known for.

Even Darth Vader's Got To Pay For Parking In NYC

No Jedi mind tricks here; Darth Vader tried to get a traffic cop to cut him some slack on a parking ticket claiming that he paid and put the receipt in his vehicle windshield, but the officer just didn't buy it.

Cory Booker and Chris Christie Show Off Their Comedy Chops

Every once in a while it's nice to see politicians not taking themselves too seriously and to have some fun with each other. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Newark Mayor Cory Booker put together this video as part of the NJ Press Association Dinner festivities. There's some sly references to Booker's heroic actions of saving neighbors from a fire and a few Seinfeld references as well.

Jack White Does Seven Nation Army

Jack White, who with his wife Meg, were part of the duo White Stripes did a stripped down version of Seven Nation Army.

White, now touring in support of his solo album Blunderbus, has two backing bands helping him do renditions of songs from his entire career.

This is the concert version of Seven Nation Army:

Six Years To 100 Stories

One World Trade Center is essentially at 100 stories (or it will be by next week). The two tower cranes are already above that level, and the steel is continuing to be erected on the tower as it nears preparation for the antenna/spire that will ultimately rise to 1,776 feet.

It's been a long and painful journey to this point, and the following video is a time-lapse of the construction from its inception:

Dr. Who Filming in New York City; New Season Teaser Trailer Released

Dr. Who made history last season by filming parts of episodes in the United States. They've crossed the pond once again to film, this time in our own backyard. They'll be filming in and around New York City across the next couple of days after shooting scenes in Central Park.
... the show is rumored to be filming in Brooklyn Heights (and possibly Brooklyn Bridge Park) today, and appears to be set to shoot in Tudor City tonight from 6 p.m. until Midnight. And interestingly, "there will be prop antique firearms and also 1930s vehicles at the location.

And a new expanded teaser trailer, which includes more Daleks, action, and more Amy and the Doctor.

Give me some Daleks any day. And Ben Browder for good measure.

The Doctor returns later this year with 14 new episodes. It also marks the end of the run for the Doctor's companions Rory and Amy, who are leaving the show. (HT: Mrs. Lawhawk)

One can only hope the third installment is better than the second movie.
