The Conundrum, Part 20

The IDF has killed on of Gilad Shalit's kidnappers, but is no closer to securing his release now than they were when he was first taken just about four months ago. Hamas thinks that a referendum on the Palestinian government is tantamount to a coup. Well, now we know where Hamas stands on elections.

Israel, meanwhile, has decided to no longer distinguish between organizations in Gaza Strip. Expect to hear how this is somehow going to lead to collective punishment. Israel has previously sought to delineate between the various terror groups operating, as though it made any difference. Those Islamic terror groups all sought the same thing - the annihilation of Israel. They still do.

Hizbullah is still being armed thanks to Syria. That, despite the fact that the UN SCR 1701 prohibits militias operating inside Lebanon. At the same time, the Italians are considering giving Lebanon sophisiticated anti-aircraft missiles, which are entirely likely to fall into Hizbullah's hands. The UN calls Israel's overflights of Lebanon to determine Hizbullah's movements and presence a serious violation. No word on whether the UN thinks that Hizbullah's existence is a serious violation, though the silence on the matter speaks volumes as to what it thinks.

Take with a grain of salt, but Debka is reporting that Syria may be looking into a little extra curricular activities in Lebanon - seeking to overthrow the Lebanese government.

The IDF uncovered five more weapons smuggling tunnels in Rafah.
