Iran Has That Hi-Pro Glow To It

The U.N. atomic agency has found traces of highly enriched uranium at an Iranian site linked to the country's defense ministry, diplomats said Friday. The finding added to concerns that Tehran was hiding activities that could be used to make nuclear arms.

The diplomats, who demanded anonymity in exchange for revealing the confidential information, said the findings were preliminary and still had to be confirmed through other lab tests. But they said the density of enrichment appeared close to or beyond weapons grade — the level used to make nuclear warheads.
Peaceful purposes huh? That glow that Ahmadinejad may have been seeing was his nuclear weapons scientists getting ever closer to obtaining enough enriched uranium to build nuclear weapons.

But diplomats the world over seem to think that they have the solution to the Iranian conundrum - ignore all the empirical evidence that Iran wants nuclear weapons and offer solutions that do nothing to actually thwart Iran's weapons programs.

UPDATE:
Others taking note of this story and the low-key play in the media: Flopping Aces, Right Wing Nuthouse wonders at the media's collective yawn over Iran's declaration of war (or a letter of dialogue as they liked to call it), Winds of Change thinks it may have to eat crow - because he underestimated the time it would take for the Iranian threat to become imminent. This story makes it appear that we don't have long to wait at all for Iran to have the bomb. In fact, it says that they may already have it thanks to the AQ Khan proliferation network. [HT: LGF]

And it looks like Venezuela is angling for a slot on the Axis of Evil chart. Chavez says that no one gets oil if Iran is attacked.
Visiting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said in Rome on Thursday in case of a military attack against Iran, no country in the world would have access to crude oil.

Chavez made the remark at a press conference, adding, “As Iran’s President Ahmadinejad has reiterated, if Tehran would come under attack, oil would get scarce for everyone.”

He also said that the US President George W. Bush should be put to trial at the international court of justice for having launched genocide in Iraq. “For all the horror it has created around the globe in the course of the past century, the United States’ war machine should be dismantled, since under the current conditions it is a threat against the entire mankind, particularly against our children.”
Why would Chavez throw his hat in with the mullahs? I'd like to suggest that the IAEA and the PSI check and see whether Hugo has been getting any interesting shipments lately.
