Addled Former President Makes Nice With Terrorists; Terrorists Plot Assassination of Carter

What could possibly go wrong? Former President Jimmy Carter, who hasn't met a terror group he didn't find to his liking, now wants to see President Obama lift the terrorist designation from Hamas.

Why?

Hamas continues to plot attacks against Israel and has used its takeover of Gaza to create an armed camp ready to strike against Israel at the time and place of its choosing.

And even more curious is that an assassination plot was uncovered against President Carter; bombs were placed along the route Carter took through Gaza, but were discovered in time.
Carter, a chief defender of the U.S.-designated terror group, said he will meet with officials in the Obama administration in two days to discuss his latest trip to the Middle East.

Carter said he feels personally responsible that American weapons were used to fight in Gaza Strip last year, when Israeli Defense Forces entered the strip to stop the launch of rockets from there into Israel.

Carter was visiting with Hamas leaders to try to persuade them to accept the international community's conditions for ending its boycott of the Islamic militant group.

The international community has asked Hamas to recognize Israel, renounce violence and accept previous peace deals as part of ongoing efforts for Palestinians overall to acquire their own country. Hamas has refused.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian source told FOX News that the group had discovered two roadside bombs planted near a crossing between Israel and Gaza on a path Carter's convoy took to meet with the group's leaders.

According to the source, the bombs were intended to hit Carter's vehicle as he exited Gaza. There is some suspicion that Hamas extremists linked to Al Qaeda may be behind the attempt.
Hamas will not change its core tenet - Israel must be destroyed. Hamas is founded on the doctrine of jihad and that Israel's existence is an abomination that must be eliminated from the world. It will not accept a two-state solution, nor would it ever accept a Jewish state of Israel alongside a Palestinian state. Mention of Israel comes only when it seeks targeting data for its terrorists (and the kassams and mortars continue being fired into Israel sporadically, despite a ceasefire, including just two days ago). Israel also captured a bunch of terror suspects on the West Bank today.

UPDATE:
The Jawa Report links. Thanks! Indeed, Carter is clueless about what has happened with Hamas, and if he's concerned about American made weapons ending up in the hands of terrorists, perhaps he should make sure that the US doesn't provide any weapons to the Palestinian Authority, who lost them to Hamas. That was part of a misguided effort to strengthen the Palestinian Authority, but those weapons in Gaza fell into Hamas hands when the Palestinian civil war broke out between Hamas and Fatah for control. Fatah lost, and the weapons ended up in Hamas' hands.

UPDATE:
Hamas believes that Carter is operating on behalf and as an extension of the Obama Administration. Carter continues to be used by Hamas as a prop for Hamas propaganda efforts, and claims that Carter speaks for the current Administration. Then again, Carter is willingly providing his services for that effort, so this isn't some mere useful idiocy, but active assistance.

This means the Administration better clarify its own position regarding Carter's trip and freelance diplomacy. If Carter is indeed working on behalf of the Administration, he's working against American interests since Hamas is a terrorist group with American blood on its hand, and which seeks nothing less than Israel's destruction. They benefit from Carter's gullibility and insatiable need to reign in Israel, forcing more concessions from Israel without paying attention to what Hamas is doing openly and overtly to bring the region to a confrontation.
