So, what are we to make of Israeli Prime Minister Olmert's pronouncements that peace is achievable and that they're closer than ever.
I'd say it's nothing more than an empty promise by an empty suit who is doing everything possible to avoid being taken away in a perp-walk for multiple criminal charges.
There's no reason to be optimistic about peace with the Palestinians because they have never strayed from their ultimate goal of destroying Israel. Recent terrorist attacks, including using a front end loader, shootings, and incessant mortar and rocket attacks should be a reminder that the terrorists have not changed their goals, and yet the diplomats ignore this repeatedly in their pursuit of pseduorealism.
Hizbullah, which seeks Israel's destruction is resurgent in Lebanon, and the idea of a peace deal with Syria has been floated repeatedly in recent months, even though Assad will not even dignify the Israeli delegation with a public indication of their presence - except with having his back turned to them.
