Sen. John Kerry is back in the news these days - or at least attempting to get back in the news. He's going after the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, who helped expose Kerry's lies and omissions about his 4-month tour of duty in Vietnam. T. Boone Pickens offered Kerry $1 million to refute just one of the Swift Boat claims.
Patterico has the details. While the usual suspects claim that Pickens is weaseling out of the deal to pay Kerry $1 million if the Swift Boat claims can be proven false, I see the latest back-and-forth nothing more than dickering over the terms and how the facts will be determined.
Kerry could have avoided all this by releasing his entire military record - the DD-214, and enabled everyone to pore through those records, when the issue first arose. Instead, he did nothing of the kind, and those Swift Boaters who served with him rightfully attacked him on his credibility. Kerry's statements on the record contradict what his fellow veterans recollect, including where missions took place, who was involved, and other similar details.
I look forward to seeing how this all plays out. Of course, this is nothing more than a cheap ploy to stay relevant and in the media while other Democrats are fighting for the 2008 nomination. Three years later to fight back on these claims? Nice. That's really going out and defending your interests there Sen. Kerry.
