Are we any closer to a deal securing the release of Gilad Shalit? This report indicates that while Hamas and the PRCs are crowing about Israel being close to agreeing on a deal, Israeli officials are "unaware of any progress to secure the release of Shalit."
Oh, and let's not forget about Goldwasser or Regev, both of whom are still held by Hizbullah.
All the fighting between the Palestinian terror groups and with Israel has done wonders for the Palestinian economy. It dropped over $1 billion in GDP over the past year. That fighting includes launching kassam rockets into Israel. Two more hit Sderot. Egypt is boosting security along its border with Gaza - doubling the contingent of security forces at the behest of Israel to curtail the flow of weapons across the border in the smuggling tunnels beneath the Philadelphi corridor.
Egypt also arrested 20 Muslim Brotherhood members. That's a good start - the Brotherhood has connections to major Islamic terror groups around the world and its ideology helped spawn the current crop of Islamists.
The Lebanese PM wants Israel to stop its overflights of Lebanon, but Israel's security is continued to be undermined by UNIFIL and Lebanon's refusal to disarm Hizbullah pursuant to UN SCR 425, 426, 1559 and 1701.
Robert Fisk is at it again, claiming that Israel used uranium based weapons, though Fisk has been down this road before. It's just another way of spinning the old blood libels on Israel.
Meanwhile, Sec. State Rice thinks that Hizbullah needs to disarm if it is to take part in Lebanese politics. I must disagree. Hizbullah needs to be disbanded and its leaders held to account for its war against Israel that devastated South Lebanon. Its leaders also must be held accountable for the terror attacks against US interests around the world, including the 1983 Marine Barracks bombings.
