There are many ways to go after Islamic terrorists. You can go the direct route, killing them and their supporters just as the Afghans have done. The Afghan military, backed by coalition helicopters, killed 41 Taliban after attacking a suspected hideout.
Another option is to follow the money. If you can cut off their money, the terrorists don't have as many options. That's what a group of Americans have done. They are families affected by terrorist attacks and are suing to cut the money flow. So, they're going after the banks that serviced accounts used by the terrorists.
The cash crunch is particularly hard on Hamas and the Palestinians who now have to live with their election results. We're already seeing the fruits of cutting off money as the Palestinians are fighting among themselves and the 'security' forces are demanding to be paid.
Both tactics are central to the ongoing campaign against the terrorists because you need to do both in order to win. However, there is a third facet that has not been nearly as successful - the media war.
And then there are the countries that look the other way or actively support terrorist regimes and their state sponsors. Russia, instead of cutting off aid to Hamas, is not going to cut off aid, despite the fact that the US and EU are cutting aid because Hamas is a terrorist group and will not recognize the state of Israel or adopt a 2-state solution. Russia is seeking to resume its place in opposition to all things American by siding with the regime in Khartoum so that no action can be taken to stop the genocide in Darfur, has sided with Iran to prevent action on stopping Iran's nuclear weapons intentions, and now sided with Hamas to provide funding.
Russia is looking to expand its client base, and that's an extremely troubling development. Not only in the global fight against terrorism and rogue regimes, but for human rights and improving the human condition in the Middle East where it is sorely needed.
