Why Is School Bus Beatdown a National Story?

Schoolyard fights have happened as long as there have been schools. There have always been fights between bullies and those they bully. So, why is a school bus fight making national headlines according to Drudge? Here, we have an instance where a black student is seen on video beating up a white student.

Many have gone on to claim that there's a racial angle to this, including Drudge.

That's one possibility. Another is that it's a typical school fight and race has nothing to do with it.

I don't see how or why this has to be a racially tinged incident. Even the police investigating jumped to the conclusion it was racially motivated after briefly viewing the tape.
A Belleville police spokesman now says an incident where a white student was beaten by teen black assailants on a bus “may not be racially motivated.”

“It was premature on my part,” said Belleville Police Capt. Don Sax. “It was my personal and emotional comment after only seeing the video briefly.”

Sax said police interviewed the 17-year-old Belleville West High student. However, he said he was unaware of what the student told police.
This is yet another instance of people jumping to conclusions about an incident without all the facts in. It's fear mongering and leads to more trouble.

What we do know is that the black student(s) involved should face assault charges. How and why they chose to assault the white student is under investigation. To claim that it was racism without knowing is irresponsible.
