“The hurricane is going to hit New Orleans about the time they start. The timing is, at least it appears now, it will be there Monday. That just demonstrates God is on our side,” Fowler said, while laughing. Fowler also told Spratt that “everything’s cool.”
So, what does he do? He blames the right winger who taped him making his idiotic statements. Right, the right winger made him do it.
He also attempts to apologize for making his statements. In fact, he uses the typical mealy mouth response - if you're offended by what he said, he apologizes.
"If this offended anybody, I personally apologize," Fowler told ABC News. "It was a mistake, and it was a satirical statement made in jest. And one that I clearly don't believe."He's attempted to claim that he was referencing Jerry Falwell's statements relating to 9/11.
Sorry, too little too late. You're a callous idiot who thought nothing of using a natural disaster for your own advantage and amusement.
So, I guess now that the storm has downgraded to a category two and New Orleans has appeared to avoid the kind of catastrophic damage from Katrina that it means that God is somehow on the side of the GOP? Nonsense. He doesn't choose sides. New Orleans got lucky this time.
They might not be so lucky the next time. There's still two months to go in the 2008 hurricane season, and there's always next year. Hurricanes will continue to pound US coastlines annually, and they are no laughing matter when millions of lives are at stake and hundreds of billions of dollars in property are at stake.
