Double Talk

Palestinian terrorists continue to fire rockets and mortars at Israel, and one fell near an Israeli military camp causing several soldiers to suffer from shock.

Hamas wants to engage in yet another hudna with Israel, knowing that the hammer is about to fall real hard on the terrorist group after watching Islamic Jihad get eviscerated yesterday as their top thug and weapons maker were dispatched in airstrikes. Hamas knows what it is like to see their leaders eliminated by Israel. Rantisi and Yassin were both eliminated in Israeli airstrikes in 1994, and Hamas leaders apparently like the idea of killing Israelis and having others become martyrs more than engaging in suicide attacks themselves.

Don't be fooled by the talk of a truce. A truce would mean that both sides lay down their arms for a period of time. This is about giving Hamas breathing room to regroup and rearm knowing that Israel would get castigated in the world media for engaging in airstrikes against terrorists that seek to do Israelis harm, even if done preemptively. Hamas isn't giving up on the idea of killing Israelis. They're worried about self-preservation.

For its part, Israel hasn't given in to such calls - yet.

And keep that in mind when reminding yourself that Israel has suffered from being hit by more than 3,500 rocket and mortar attacks from Gaza since 2005 and hasn't dealt with the terrorist groups in any meaningful way until this week. Going after the terrorist leadership definitely got the terrorists' attention in a big way.

Meanwhile, Hamas continues to prepare for the coming war with Israel, and is using the hajj as cover for their training in Iran. It just goes to show that the terrorists' intentions remain unchanged - Israel's destruction remains paramount, and Iran continues to lurk in the background as a supplier and enabler of terrorism.
