Spitzer's Illegal Alien Drivers License Plan Shelved

While Gov. Eliot Spitzer's plan to provide NYS drivers licenses to illegal aliens has been shelved, it would appear that some aliens were able to obtain licenses but such licenses do not include stickers that show when their visas expire. How many are involved?

About 23,000. Give or take.
The 23,000′’ may sound like a low budget film on the Sci Fi channel, but expect to hear a lot about it from Republicans who have no intention of letting the driver’s-licenses-for-illegal-immigrants issue rest, despite Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s reversal of the plan.

Assembly Republican Minority Leader Jim Tedisco, for instance, told WROW-AM in an early morning talk show that he’s still concerned about the roughly 23,000 aliens who since September received licenses without the previously affixed labels showing when their visas expired. That was the first and possibly only substantive change that was enacted after Spitzer in September announced his plan through administrative fiat.

“We’re going to ask the governor to have them come back now and put the expiration dates on the licenses,'’ Tedisco said, referring to those visa-holders who now have licenses that don’t show when their visas expire.
Nice.

UPDATE:
Sen. Hillary Clinton has reversed course weeks after saying that she supported Spitzer's plan to issue drivers licenses to illegal aliens.
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday came out against granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, after weeks of pressure in the presidential race to take a position on a now-failed ID plan from her home state governor.

Clinton has faced criticism from candidates in both parties for her noncommittal answers on New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's attempt to allow illegal immigrants in his state to receive driver's licenses. Spitzer abandoned the effort Wednesday.

"I support Governor Spitzer's decision today to withdraw his proposal," Clinton said in a statement. "As president, I will not support driver's licenses for undocumented people and will press for comprehensive immigration reform that deals with all of the issues around illegal immigration including border security and fixing our broken system."
I don't trust her when she says that she wont give drivers licenses to illegal aliens because her tact will be to make illegal aliens a thing of the past altogether. She's going to grant them amnesty, so that the issue will become academic.
