This definitely qualifies as bad news. The US Navy was busy conducting exercises with the Kitty Hawk carrier battle group off Okinawa, and somehow a Chinese submarine managed to break inside the security screen and surfaces well within weapons range to take out the carrier and its escorts.

That's real bad news - all the way around.

Someone was asleep at the switch within the carrier task force, but it must also serve as a wakeup call to the Chinese military buildup, which is likely far more sophisticated and advanced than intel had previously regarded.
