Italy's Leftists Oppose US Efforts In Afghanistan

That's not a typo. Italy's leftists aren't just opposing US efforts in Iraq, but Afghanistan as well:
Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi's government was "inclined to" present its resignation to the president after a major defeat in a Senate vote on foreign policy on Wednesday, a centre-left political source said.

"Prodi has called a cabinet meeting. (They are) inclined to present their resignation to the head of state who will then decide," the source said.

Divided over the Afghan war and ties with the U.S. military, Prodi's centre-left government was unable to secure enough votes for a parliamentary motion backing Rome's foreign policy.
The leftists have succeeded in taking down the center-left government that took over from an even more pro-American government, led by Silvio Berlusconi. The Left is quite explicit in what they want and oppose the US even taking action in Afghanistan, let alone Iraq.

Expect to see this pattern emerge elsewhere in the world. We've even seen the veil slip some here among the Left in the US, where some Democrats have voiced opposition to the US operations in Afghanistan, let alone US involvment in Iraq.
