Repurposing NYC High Schools

When legalbgl wrote about the closure of five of New York City's high schools, I noted that the intention was to create mini high schools within the buildings.

It looks like I was right on target.

The city will open 20 new secondary schools next fall - including three inside beleaguered Lafayette High School.

A film and music school, an outward-bound program and a sports management school will be located inside the Brooklyn school, whose controversial principal has asked to be reassigned next year.

Other small schools will be located inside Tilden and South Shore high schools, which are being phased out because of poor performance
This doesn't mean that those new schools will be any more successful and it remains to be seen whether the new management style will improve the education and safety at those schools.

What it does mean is that those school buildings remain open. Let's hope that the new managers and administrators for the small schools can succeed where the larger school administration failed.
