Lamont Nosedives in Polling

Now this is interesting. The headline blares that the giant killer Lamont stumbles. Well, that's just a wee bit misleading isn't it? The Leftists in the Democrat party in Connecticut engaged in a purge of the party, which led to Lamont's narrow win in the primary. Lieberman shrewdly decided to run as an independent in a state he carried handily six years ago (which coincidentally was when he was running as Vice President). He's now leading polls by double digits, and this is somehow a mystery?

It's interesting that the reports think that Lamont needs the GOP candidate, Schlesinger, to cull votes from Lieberman. I don't think the margin is there as Lieberman is comfortably ahead.

Lamont never had much appeal outside the leftists in the Democrat party who put ideological purity on Iraq over all else. Never mind that Lieberman voted with the Democrat caucus 90% of the time, which puts him in the same league as Kerry and Kennedy. The difference is that Lieberman has not waivered on Iraq.

Lieberman did not leave the Democrats. The Democrats left him.
