Over the Top: Katrina Quotables

Arthur Chrenkoff has compiled a list of over-the-top quotes on Hurricane Katrina's aftermath, politicization of the disaster, and the clueless and certifiable wackiness among those who think that a single person could have stopped a 400 mile wide hurricane single handedly.

UPDATE:
Popular Mechanics had run a little story in its 9/11/2001 edition about hurricane effects and New Orleans. Sorry, but most people were a little preoccupied with a breaking story that day - the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington DC and in planes overhead that resulted in the murder of more than 3,000 people.

So, what did that article say? It pretty much spelled out everything that we're now seeing because disaster preparation folks knew that a massive storm could disrupt life as we knew it in New Orleans. And there are articles every few years warning of massive damage resulting for a strong hurricane hitting the Gulf Coast and New Orleans.

We knew this storm was a possibility. And the politicians failed us, and we're seeing people in New Orleans failing each other as they resort to looting and the most vile of behaviors. Today has to be the day that the federal government swoops in to restore order and provide a massive show of force. The media is entering a feeding frenzy over how the federal government has failed the people of the region. Sorry, I don't buy what the media says on anything these days. Things are bad over more than 100,000 square miles and bringing all the troops home from Iraq isn't going to solve matters any quicker. The government will spend as much money as it takes to fix things, but that takes time too for the effects to be seen. Someone doesn't snap their fingers and a bridge appears or all the flooding disappears.

That takes time.
What about the Posse Comitatus Act you say? Well, the Administration lawyers are defining the active duty military's role in such a way that it will not engage in law enforcement, instead engaging in site protection and other tasks. This will free up local authorities to handle law enforcement and recovery efforts.

UPDATE II:
Need I say any more? Put away the political BS and work the problem damnit! These people need our help and all most of the folks on the left can do is bitch and moan about how Bush did this, didn't do that, or failed.

In all the time that these folks spend posting their hate and diatribes, they could have donated to the ARC or any of the other charities. They could have called or emailed their Congressmen to see what else they could do to help. They could have emailed to find out what their local officials were doing about disaster preparedness in their own areas.

But no. They have to make this a political mess. Sheesh!
