Two New Yorkers Arrested and Indicted For Trying To Aid Al Qaeda is reporting that authorities have arrested two Brooklyn men for trying to aid al Qaeda. The men, Wesam el-Hanafi and Sabirhan Hasanoff, are charged with conspiring to provide material support to al Qaeda. The focus was on their efforts to assist al Qaeda in overseas terror operations and to apparently recruit others to al Qaeda.

A copy of the indictment is here. They are first appearing in a Virginia federal court and will be transferred to New York to stand trial.

The charges include references to accepting money transferred from an unnamed co-conspirator who was not included in the current legal action, and meeting with al Qaeda terrorists during a meeting in Yemen. It is alleged that one of the men took an oath of allegiance to al Qaeda while in Yemen.
