Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip bombarded southern Israel with dozens of mortars and rockets on Wednesday, sowing panic and despair there and burdening diplomatic efforts to revive a truce that expired over the weekend.Where did Hamas acquire all those rockets and mortars? Simple. They've been stockpiling them during their six-month hudna, and they know that they now have sufficient ammo to fire at Israel for a sustained conflict, at least until Israel decides to throw down the hammer and Hamas begs for yet another hudna to regroup and rearm.
No Israelis were injured in the barrages. The attacks took a steeper toll in Gaza as explosives apparently misfired, wounding three civilians and killing two militants. One of the injured civilians works for a conflict resolution center.
Hamas, the Islamic militant group that rules Gaza, said the bombardment came in retaliation for the deaths of three of its fighters in a clash with Israeli troops late Tuesday. Israel said the militants were planting explosives in northern Gaza along the border fence.
About 60 rockets and mortars pelted southern Israel by midafternoon Wednesday, the military said. Rockets reached as far as Beit Hagdi, a small community about 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Gaza City, the military said.
Hamas uses its terrorists as cannon fodder; it knowingly sends its terrorists to get into situations with Israeli forces, so that Hamas can somehow justify the continued terrorist attacks on Israel. A compliant media doesn't seem to care how it's reporting the ongoing attacks, and the diplomats simply ignore the attacks as a minor inconvenience to their diplomatic efforts to paper over gaping holes of logic and reasoning.
Reuters claims that no Israelis were injured in the attacks. That's not true. Israelis were injured and treated for shock in Ashkelon and surrounding areas. In fact, several Palestinians were hit by rockets that fell short of their targets.
A house in the Sdot Negev region sustained a direct hit from a rocket just before noon on Wednesday. No one was wounded in the attack but the rocket caused extensive damage.Ynet reports that 30 people suffered shock from the barrage. The terrorists focused their efforts on a factory in the Eshkol Regional Council, causing significant damage.
Earlier, two people were treated for shock when a volley of rockets was fired at Netivot, landing in an industrial zone. Several rockets landed in the agricultural areas outlying the town.
Early Wednesday morning, two rockets landed in an open area in the Sha'ar Hanegev region and another Grad-type rocket hit the coastal area south of Ashkelon. A fourth rocket failed to clear the border and landed within Hamas territory. Gaza health officials said that two Palestinian civilians were lightly hurt when the rocket landed on a house in the northern Gaza town of Beit Lahiya.
Reuters does its customers a grave disservice by making claims that simply aren't supported by the facts.
Hamas doesn't care who gets injured or killed in their terror operations. They just want to pile up the body count and hope to blame Israel at every opportunity.
UPDATE:
Meanwhile, the NYT graces its above the fold website with yet another Palestinian propaganda moment - terrorists preparing to fire rockets into Israel. Imagine what kind of outcry would occur should Israel dispatch these terrorists and kill the photographer at the same time.
These terrorists are hoping to kill and maim Israelis, and this photographer is providing the terrorists with new propaganda.
Lovely.
Just frellin' lovely.
The New York Times, along with the rest of the media industry, would rather show the terrorists in action, carrying out their terrorist acts rather than the results of those acts - damaged Israeli factories, businesses, homes, or Israelis rushed to the hospital for shock and other assorted injuries. The terrorists aren't heroic. They're cowards who hide behind civilians and who purposefully target Israeli civilians because they seek nothing less than Israel's destruction.
