Long Island Slave Case Sentencing Handed Down

This case made headlines for the sordid details of a rich Long Island family treated their live-in help no better than slave labor, complete with beatings and wretched living conditions.

Indeed, Mahender Murlidhar Sabhnani, 51, and his wife, Varsha Mahender Sabhnani, 45, were each convicted of all charges in a 12-count federal indictment that included forced labor, conspiracy, involuntary servitude, and harboring aliens.

Now, the sentence for Varsha has been handed down. 11 years in prison.
A judge has given an 11-year prison sentence to a millionaire who inflicted years of abuse on two Indonesian housekeepers held as virtual slaves in her Long Island mansion.

Varsha Sabhnani was convicted with her husband in December on a 12-count federal indictment that included forced labor, conspiracy, involuntary servitude and harboring aliens.
She got off lightly, as she was facing 40 years in prison. Her husband may not be so lucky. He's to be sentenced tomorrow.
