Israel has never hidden the fact that it wanted Syria to sever ties to Hamas and Hizbullah and the mad mullahs of Iran before even moving forward on the issue of normalizing relations and considering the return of the Golan Heights.
Syria continues to reject that out of hand. Syria's Bashar al Assad continues to believe that it's in his best interests to continue harboring terrorists in Hamas and Hizbullah along with the Iranian regime.
UPDATE:
Funny, but you could see this coming from a mile away, and yet the media was all giddy over this. Now watch for the media to complain about Israel's demands getting in the way of a deal, even though those demands were an essential part of seeing just how serious the Syrians were about any deal with Israel. Israel would be paying a serious price for returning the Golan, and would be getting oral obligations to not engage in acts of war against Israel in return.
