Zimbabwean Opposition Claims Outright Victory

While Mugabe's thugs continue to claim that a runoff election is needed, the opposition is defiantly declaring that they won the election outright.

ZIMBABWE'S opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai said today he's the clear winner over Robert Mugabe in the first round of a presidential election and there's no need for a run-off.
"The result is known, that the MDC (the opposition Movement for Democratic Change) won the presidential and parliamentary election. President Mugabe and ZANU-PF (the ruling party) should accept the results," Tsvangirai said in his first declaration that he had won at the first attempt.

"The MDC won the election and will not accept the suppression of the will of the people,'' he said.
Mugabe has destroyed the country, and is still holding on to power for as long as he can. The runoff election is yet another way to try and game the results in his favor, despite losing the election. Meanwhile, opposition lawyers were being blocked from going to court to force the publication of the election results. Mugabe's still trying to game the results, and cover up his tracks. He has done so poorly and is so inept that he couldn't even rig the elections so that he could win - he had to settle for blocking an outright win by the opposition.

Instapundit links. Thanks! I concur with his statement that Mugabe's got what's coming to him - even if it means him dancing from the end of a rope.
