Two soldiers were moderately wounded and 11 more sustained light wounds early Saturday morning after a Palestinian terror cell detonated a car bomb at the Kerem Shalom goods crossing near the security fence along the border in the southern Gaza Strip. There is no differentiation between the military wing and the political wing. Both seek Israel's destruction and they're simply trying to emulate the IRA position of creating military and political wings so as to legitimize their existence, even as Hamas is ideologically and religiously bound to Israel's destruction. It does, however, provide the terror group's leadership with claims that they weren't involved should Israel attempt to go after them.
Exchanges of fire ensued as IDF troops engaged the Palestinian gunmen, who were apparently attempting to infiltrate the crossing under the cover of heavy fog. A second car bomb, which had also been driven into the crossing, failed to detonate.
The bombing constitutes the fifth Palestinian assault on Gaza border crossings since last week.
Palestinian sources report that the Hamas cell tried to use mortar shells and gunfire to distract forces while one or more terrorists tried to cross into the Israeli side of Kerem Shalom.
According to the sources the fighting is taking place primarily on the Palestinian side as IDF soldiers crossed into Gaza in pursuit of the gunmen, three of whom have been confirmed killed.
Abu Obeida, a spokesman for the military wing of Hamas, the al-Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for the attack on behalf of Hamas.
Israeli residents of communities close to Gaza have been instructed to remain in their homes due to concerns of a possible infiltration. On Thursday security forces thwarted another infiltration attempt in the same area.
Hamas thugs call today's attacks a great success, precisely because they were able to bloody Israeli soldiers on Passover eve, not because they were actually successful in breaching the border or that their own terrorists survived.
These attacks are increasing with frightening regularity and it may be a matter of time before Hamas succeeds in kidnapping still more Israeli soldiers to be used alongside Gilad Shalit as bait for more concessions. The Israeli government refuses to take full scale action against Hamas leadership, despite their clear involvement in plotting and planning these attacks. That said, they did launch attacks against local Hamas thugs, killing one in an airstrike.
Meanwhile, the Jerusalem Post is reporting that the Egyptians believe that "progress" has been made on securing the release of Gilad Shalit. What utter nonsense. The terms for the so-called progress are the same exact ones that Hamas has been pushing since the start. They want Israel to release hundreds of Palestinian terrorists from jail, and only then will they consider releasing Shalit and stopping the rocket fire.
Speaking of rockets, still more kassams slammed into Israel, courtesy of the Palestinian terrorists.
Also, former President Carter met with Hamas thug Khalid Meshaal twice in Syria. He's sure gotten cozy with Hamas thugs on this trip. He can't seem to get enough of them, and as I've noted, he's provided them with a decade's worth of soundbites.
