How the hell did Time's photo editors miss all the clues that this is a purposefully misleading photo and caption? Note the sunlight streaming in from behind the curtains on both the left and right sides of the room. Note the sunlight streaming in from the room in the back and the men silhouetted by strong light.
If I can notice all these problems, where was the vaunted media's layers of fact checkers and photo editors to do the same?
This was a stage managed photo opportunity designed to bash Israel in the media. And it works because you've got media types who either ignore clear problems or have no problem letting them through.
This is yet more photographic evidence that Hamas purposefully spun and manufactured a crisis in Gaza to increase pressure on Israel. And diplomats the world over ignore all this anyways.
UPDATE:
Further problems with the caption, which states:
The Israeli embargo has left the Gaza Strip without electricity. The Palestinian Parliament was forced to meet by candlelight on Tuesday night. The vaunted fact checkers couldn't be bothered with the fact that the Palestinian Parliament meets in Ramallah, not Gaza. They also couldn't be bothered to note that Israel only cut the supply of fuel to Gaza, not electricity. Israel continues to supply more than 2/3 of Gaza's electricity, which was never cut during this entire episode.
This photo and caption were originally proffered by Mohammed Salem and Reuters. No one at Reuters caught these problems either. They too deserve to be roasted for these misleading and blatantly false statements in the caption let alone the clearly bogus and staged photograph.
UPDATE:
Don Surber links. Thanks! He also wonders if the power was out, how come they're using microphones. Good question.
