Human Rights Day 2007

Today is Human Rights Day.

Not much to celebrate, especially if you're in any number of African, Asian, or Latin American countries these days.

This article runs down just the tip of the iceberg in Africa, focusing on Zimbabwe. However, human rights abused continue in Darfur, Chad, Somalia, Sudan, Congo, and elsewhere.

Dozens of human rights protestors were detained in Kashmir while the situation in Pakistan is being deemed the worst in years, focusing on Musharraf's crackdown against the Islamists that extended to taking on the judiciary and the legal profession. Not much was said about the Islamists and their incessant attacks on the government and civilians alike.

China's human rights abuses continue even as the Communists gear up for the Olympics next year.

Even as Fidel Castro lingers in limbo, the Cuban government continues to detain political prisoners and thwart the will of the people as the dictatorship lurches onward with Raul Castro pulling the strings.

Of course, no discourse about human rights would be complete without the whining and seething of the Palestinians and their useful idiots, who complain about Israel's security measures, all the while ignoring the reason that such measures had to be put in place. Palestinian terrorism is unremarked upon, while Israel's security measures, including checkpoints and retaliatory strikes against terror cells that fire rockets and mortars against Israel are deemed human rights abuses.

UPDATE:
The Taliban once again show why they're scum of the earth and should never again be allowed to gain power anywhere. They hanged a 12-year old boy claiming that he was passing along Taliban movements and actions to NATO and Afghan forces. (HT: ornery elephant at LGF)
