Wishful Thing

Once again, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert engages in wishful thinking if he really believes that Israel and the Palestinians could have a peace deal and genuine peace in 2008.

Let's review:

Oslo in 1993 was supposed to bring peace. Lots of concessions by Israel, and yet the Palestinians engaged in terrorism, suicide bombings, and mortar and rocket attacks against Israel. That's despite Israel giving civil administrative control of much of the West Bank and all of Gaza to the Palestinians.

Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza in 2005. That was promptly followed by the Palestinians sacking the facilities left by the Israelis for economic use (greenhouses, etc.) and have turned Gaza into one large terrorist training camp/safe haven. Mortar and rocket attacks against Israel are a near daily occurrence.

Now, we're supposed to have peace next year?

Sorry, I'm not buying into the wishful thinking of pseudorealists who would much rather invent facts that suit their needs than deal with the open and obvious problems - namely that the Palestinians do not want a two-state solution but rather seek to supplant Israel with their own kleptocratic and/or Islamist state.
