Crippling

On the day when the news reports that al Qaeda may have been crippled by the ongoing surge and efforts of the US and the Iraqis, word comes that the Democrats efforts to get a resolution passed condemning the Armenian genocide might cripple US logistical operations in Turkey.

The resolution, which condemns the Turkish government (well, the Ottoman Empire, which ceased to exist after World War I) for the Armenian genocide that killed 1.5 million Armenians.

One has to question the motives of those pushing the resolution as to the time and manner of the resolution. What purpose is served in bringing up this issue at this juncture? Well, crippling the US military capabilities may be playing a role since fracturing the relations between the US and Turkey might hamper the US efforts to stabilize the situation in Iraq. Turkey may also play a more bellicose role in Northern Iraq, where the Kurds operate autonomously, much to the chagrin of the Turkish government, which has its own sizeable Kurdish population looking to their Iraqi brethren and wishing for a similar arrangement.
