Heating Up

Syria claims that it fired on Israeli fighter jets that entered Syrian airspace after they dropped ammunition on Syrian territory. Israel denies any such events took place.
Syria says its air defences have opened fire on Israeli war planes which had entered Syrian airspace overnight.

Israeli planes had "dropped ammunition" over desert areas of Syria, before being forced to leave, according to the official Syrian news agency, SANA.

Israel radio quoted an unnamed Israeli army source as saying no air strike had been carried out, Reuters agency said.

The Syrian news agency says the action took place "without causing human or material loss".

Syria and Israel have remained technically at war since the seizure of the Golan Heights in 1967.
Meanwhile, Hamas claims to have infiltrated an Israeli base inside Gaza, driving a vehicle through a barrier and engaging in a heavy firefight.

Israel says that they've stopped a terrorist infiltration from Gaza at Kissufim.
Military sources said that the gunmen were advancing towards the Kissufim crossing in two cars when the IAF targeted their vehicles, thwarting the attack. Ground forces also fired on the gunmen.

The army said it was investigating the possibility that one of the vehicles had been rigged with explosives to serve as a car bomb.

The army said no soldiers were wounded and no damage was reported.

The Islamic Jihad and Fatah-allied Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack.

A spokesman for Islamic Jihad, Abu Ahmed, said a pickup truck crashed through the fence in central Gaza first, allowing an armored jeep to drive through.
A pipe bomb stash was found in Jenin. Still more kassam rockets were fired, and one landed near a school in Sderot. How's that security plan working out for you, PM Olmert? It's certainly not working out for the residents of Sderot.

HRW continues its long history of bashing Israel and ignoring terrorist actions. It claims Israel fired indiscriminately on Lebanese civilians and could not find evidence that Hizbullah hid among civilian populations.

I kid you not.

You would have to ignore the fact that Hizbullah wore no uniforms, drove rocket launchers into civilian areas after firing, used UNIFIL positions as a shield against counter battery fire, and regularly targeted Israeli civilians with indiscriminate rocket fire. Hizbullah also initiated the conflict by invading Israel and still holds Goldwasser and Regev. Inconvenient facts.
