Records

Alex Rodriguez became the youngest player in MLB history to hit 500 homers. He came off a homer-less streak of 22 at bats before connecting on the first pitch he saw yesterday. It took a few moments to realize that the ball would stay fair, and he marched around the bases knowing that his place in baseball lore was secure as the youngest to ever reach that mark.

Barry Bonds connected in San Diego off Clay Hensley to hit his 755th home run. That ties Hank Aaron for first place all time for career home runs.

No asterisk is necessary. Everyone knows it. Everyone knows that there is something about this era of baseball that doesn't quite smell right. There's something about Bonds that doesn't quite pass the smell test.

The asterisk was a mistake for Maris. It would be a mistake here.

Instead, let's do the honorable thing - honor Aaron for doing the incredible - without any assistance - and in the face of incredible racism and threats to his personal safety.
