Palestinian Civil War Watch

The Palestinian civil war continues without end, and the Palestinian Authority is doing all it can to prevent those caught in the middle of the fighting from getting out. They've issued a fatwa prohibiting Muslims from leaving:
Alarmed by the growing number of Palestinians who are emigrating from the Palestinian territories, the Palestinian Authority's mufti has issued a fatwa [religious decree] forbidding Muslims to leave.

Sources in the PA Foreign Ministry told The Jerusalem Post that some 10,000 Palestinians have filed requests to emigrate from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the year. They said the requests had been approved.

"Every day we hear about hundreds of Palestinians who file requests for emigration with different consulates and diplomatic missions," the sources said.

"According to our statistics, there are at least 45,000 emigration applications being reviewed by different countries."

The sources said most of the applicants were young men seeking work abroad. They said the majority of them wanted to move to the US, EU and Canada.

The number of Palestinians who wish to emigrate increased significantly after the second intifada broke out in September 2000. Figures published by a number of Palestinian groups show that 50,000 to 80,000 people emigrated in the first few years after the violence erupted.
You can't make this stuff up. The Palestinians are busy destroying Gaza in a civil war, and the Palestinian Authority wants to prevent people from leaving Gaza? You can't blame the Palestinians for wanting to leave Gaza, because it has become hell on earth; thanks entirely to Fatah, Hamas, and the Palestinian Authority.

Meanwhile, via Michael Totten, the following needs no comment:
In the Gaza Strip's Jab aliya refugee camp, Aref Suleiman was raised on Palestinian struggle against the Jewish state. Today he lies in an Israeli hospital bed, his body riddled with Palestinian bullets, his wounds tended daily by Israeli nurses.

For the 22-year-old Mr Suleiman, who was shot five times point blank by Hamas militants last month during a renewed bout of Palestinian infighting, this is not the Arab-Israeli conflict he learnt about as a child growing up in Gaza's desperate, rubbish-strewn alleys.

"Palestinians shoot me and Jews treat me," he laughs bitterly. "It was supposed to be different."
Okay, I take that back. This deserves comment. The Palestinians have been fed a lie for decades about how evil the Israelis are, and yet, time and time again, the Israelis show just how much compassion they have for Palestinians who would just as soon as blow up Israeli hospitals instead of opening them up for their own people in Gaza. While Israeli soldiers do all they can to protect Israelis from Palestinian terrorists and limit their responses so as to avoid civilian casualties, the Palestinian terrorists do not operate within any such limitations. Everyone is fair game; from the very young to the old. The Palestinians recruit kids to become terrorists, along with the mentally ill and women - who are less likely to be stopped by Israeli checkpoints.

The Palestinian civil war exposes all manner of Palestinian lies. The Palestinians have no interest in building a separate state alongside Israel. The civil war is a fight over which method should be used to build a single Palestinian state - Hamas wants open fighting right away, while Fatah is willing to take the route of thousands of paper cuts, but they are not adverse to send off their splinter groups al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade to try and capture Israeli soldiers for prisoner exchanges and to force Israeli concessions.

The Palestinians had no interest in building a vibrant economy or maintain an infrastructure. When Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, the Palestinians were given greenhouses to grow crops for export; the Palestinians ransacked and destroyed them. The Palestinians were given the Israeli settlements within Gaza; they were turned into terrorist training camps. The Palestinians were given pipes to build sewage projects; they used the pipes to build rockets to attack Israel and the sewage built up and a cesspool collapse killed Palestinians.
