A series of car bombs detonated around Baghdad this morning killing more than 120 people.
The terrorists who continue with these mass casualty attacks have no qualms about murdering people. To them, they're seeking to maximize the body counts, especially in the face of a troop surge that had been working to improve the security situation. The problem with the surge is that there are going to be terrorists who get through and are successful in carrying out their deadly missions.
The troop surge had been doing a better job of improving the security situation, and the terrorists have responded by increasing the number of car bombings because if the media gives the impression that the car bombings are murdering hundreds of people then they gain the upper hand in the propaganda battle. What gains front page status in papers: carnage and car bombs or silence and normal everyday activities?
The terrorists also know that they simply have to outlast the limited willpower of the American politicians to succeed in bringing Iraq to its knees. The car bombs are part of that strategy.
