Is This the Photo Cubans Have Been Waiting For?

If this photo pans out, it would be photographic proof of Castro's death (the accompanying translation is here). That doesn't mean that the situation in Cuba is over by any stretch of the imagination, but it may give hope to those who want to see Cuba opened up to major reforms and democracy. Prior coverage here. Watch the pages of Val Prieto's Babalu Blog and Fausta's Blog for more.

UPDATE:
John Negroponte stated that Fidel's not long for the world, saying he wasn't long for this world according to US intel sources.
Cuban President Fidel Castro is very ill and close to death, Director of National Intelligence John D. Negroponte said yesterday.

"Everything we see indicates it will not be much longer . . . months, not years," Negroponte told a meeting of Washington Post editors and reporters.
What will the Cuban thugs in charge do? They surely must produce Fidel as being alive, even though he hasn't been seen in public for months; several videos have been released showing him interacting with [T]hugo Chavez and others. This further fuels the rumor mill that Fidel has joined the ash heap of history where evil dictators spend eternity.

UPDATE:
Val Prieto posts in the comments that this is a photo edited image that has been floating around for a couple of years. It isn't the real deal.

UPDATE:
Poliblogger and Bullwinkle Blog wonder what the big deal is with this news; it simply confirms what observers have seen coming from Cuba for some time now. Fidel isn't running the country and his brother appears to be in charge. Was there an election that no one told the Cuban people about?

Of course, had the photo leading this posting been true, you can bet that it would mean quite a lot. It would be a sign of hope.
