Post Mortems

Israeli polls indicate that a strong majority of Israelis want Olmert to go. Prime Minister Olmert is widely seen as doing a poor job leading the country in the war against Hizbullah. His dithering and inability to take decisive action are chief among the reasons that the Israelis think he should go. Allah at Hot Air has more.

Meanwhile, a Jerusalem Post report claims that Israel is less concerned about disarming Hizbullah than it is about trying to stop Hizbullah from rearming. Well, considering that the UN has stated that it will do nothing to do disarm Hizbullah, what is Israel supposed to do? The UN ceasefire agreement is so fatally flawed that Hizbullah will get to not only continue to exist as a militia in South Lebanon, but it will be able to rearm because Syria is doing all it can to ensure that Hizbullah can rearm across the Syria-Lebanon border.

UPDATE:
Ed Morrissey has more on the situation with Olmert. He thinks Olmert will be gone by Yom Kippur. A national Day of Atonement indeed. Israel needs leadership that understands the strategic and tactical use of force and isn't afraid to unleash the full potential of the IDF. Many think that Benjamin Netanyahu will fill the void. Well, every time there's a crisis, his name comes up on the short list. He's a shrewd politician, and has military experience and knows loss from military combat personally. His brother Jonathan was killed on the Raid on Entebbe, which secured the release of hostages held by Palestinian terrorists in 1976. That experience stays with him to this day.
