ETYMOLOGY: German : ur-, original (from Middle High German, out of, from Old High German; see ud- in Appendix I) + Sprache, language, speech (from Middle High German sprche, from Old High German sprhha).
Now, there's a word you don't hear every day. In fact, I'm sure that quite a few spell checkers wont be able to find it in their dictionaries.

It was also the winning word in the 2006 Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The winner was Katharine "Kerry" Close, a 13-year-old speller from Spring Lake, New Jersey. She won in the 20th round. Congrats!
