Stage Two

Israel continues its Operation Summer Rains (which I had earlier called Operation Cavaliers' Wrath based on this article) and have not put targeting Mashaal out of the realm of possibility. The IAF has buzzed Syria's Assad and are preparing for further actions in Gaza.

Carl in Jerusalem notes a Michael Oren op-ed story that the only way to stop terrorism is to eliminate the source. In this case, it means the mullahs and spiritual leaders who have no problem sending their minions to an explosive ending without suffering the repercussions of their own actions.

Gaza is preparing for a prolonged action. Well, that's a prudent step on their part. A more prudent step would be delivering Shalit to the Israelis, and stopping firing all rockets, missiles, and mortars into Israel. None of this action would be necessary if the terrorists running Gaza recognized Israel's right to exist.

The Jerusalem Post is reporting that Hamas has executed one Israeli settler, Eliyahu Asheri, that was kidnapped earlier this week. Gilad Shalit's status is still unknown. More than 30 Hamas terrorists have been arrested by Israel, including three Hamas legislators.

UPDATE:
This is a truly curious news report. Reuters notes that al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade (AAMB)terrorists claim that they have fired a missile tipped with a chemical warhead against Israel. The AAMB is an offshoot of Fatah and the PLO. That would be the group whose leader is Abu Mazen.
The Israeli army had no immediate comment on the claim by the spokesman from the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed wing of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah movement.

The group had recently claimed to possess about 20 biological warheads for the makeshift rockets commonly fired from Gaza at Israeli towns. This was the first time the group had claimed firing such a rocket.

"The al-Aqsa Brigades have fired one rocket with a chemical warhead" at southern Israel, Abu Qusai, a spokesman for the group, said in Gaza.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said the army had not detected that any such rocket was fired, nor was there any report of such a weapon hitting Israel.
