Gaza Crisis Rolls On

Hamas claims that Israel isn't serious about negotiating. Can there be any more farcical statement than this?

Hamas, a terrorist group dedicated to the destruction of Israel, claims that Israel isn't serious about negotiating with Hamas. Hamas has absolutely no intention of honoring any agreement with Israel. Never did and never will.

The same goes for Fatah. Paying lip service to the notion that the Palestinians accept a two-state solution is too much for the terrorist groups. None have eliminated provisions from their charters calling for Israel's destruction. Indeed, Hamas considers it an Islamic obligation to destroy Israel.

The usual suspects, including Iran, at the UN are pushing to get the Security Council involved. Never mind the fact that this latest crisis was begun by an act of war - the infiltration of Israel's pre 1967 border from Gaza, the killing of two Israeli soldiers, and the capture of a third, who is being held by a terrorist group that runs Gaza. Iran wants to put Israel under the gun for defending itself against acts of war.

And there are unconfirmed reports that another IDF soldier was kidnapped. This time the attack occurred somewhere in the West Bank and the soldier was claimed to have been taken by Fatah's al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade.

Terrorists continue to fire Kassam rockets and other missiles into Israel. In the latest barrage, it appears that the Palestinians have managed to set new distance records with their newest rockets - a 2-stage affair that puts Ashkelon in range. Others were launched towards Sderot. No injuries were reported.

UPDATE:
An Israeli airstrike blew up a car in Gaza. There was an 'enornmous explosion' according to the report. There were at least two injured - though it's unclear who was in the car at the time.

UPDATE:
Ed Morrissey think Hamas better stop playing with matches or they'll get burnt. Crispy.

UPDATE:
CNN is reporting, though unconfirmed, that a doctor has gotten in to see Cpl. Gilad Shalit, but no details are actually provided.

Terrorists launch another Kassam rocket, landing inside Israel. No injuries or damage reported.

Blasts are reported in Khan Yunis, which is a hotbed for terrorist activities within Gaza. The AAMB denies that they're holding Shalit, which isn't surprising - they're trying to push the blame onto Hamas.

The Arab bloc in the UN continues its assault on Israel's right to self defense, as they managed to push through yet another resolution calling for investigations into Israel's human rights conduct in the territories.
The United Nations Human Rights Council on Friday accepted a resolution according to which human rights violations committed by Israel in the territories will be discussed on a permanent basis in all of the Council’s meetings.

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN in Geneva Yitzhak Levanon told Ynet in response: “I am very sorry that the Arab group took us back to the dark ages of the committee which passed away due to such behavior.”

Levanon was furious following the special discussion summoned by Arab and Muslim counties in the Council, which only began its work a week ago, replacing the Human Rights Committee – the UN’s previous human rights body, which was dissolved in a bid to establish a body in which countries violating human rights would not be able to serve.
When you have such human rights luminaries and protectors including Sudan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia sitting in judgment over Israel, you know the gig is up. Never mind the human rights violations committed by the Palestinians that precipitated this latest crisis - the murder of Israeli civilians who are kidnapped from Israeli territory, or the incessant rocket and mortar attacks violating Israel's sovereignty. No, the focus is on Israel's right to self defense.
