Deal With the Devil Consummated?

Iran has reached a mysterious "basic agreement" with Russia on a joint venture to enrich uranium, according to Iran's nuclear chief, Gholamreza Aghazadeh.

Originally, it was proposed that Iran's uranium should be enriched within Russia, which would calm Western fears that the fuel was being diverted into a weapons programme.

However, Iran has always insisted upon its right to enrich uranium within its own borders and it is unclear how the original Russian proposal could have been adapted to satisfy Teheran.

"Talks to complete this package will continue in coming days in Russia," said Mr Aghazadeh.
Iran is getting exactly what it wants and needs from Russia. Not the uranium.

Time.

More time for its own enrichment facilities to get into gear so that it can produce nuclear weapons. It takes a lot of energy to run those enrichment facilities. In the US during World War II, much of the energy produced at the Tennessee Valley Authority and the West Coast dam projects went not to power major cities, but the nuclear weapons plants at Hanford and Oak Ridge. Is Iran following a similar path - using energy from 'peaceful' nuclear power plants to power their weapons program? Quite possibly.

The Iran-Russia deal is a dangerous situation and no one seems prepared to deal with the consequences of Iran's intentions to go nuclear.
