The Battle For Ground Zero, Part 89

Mayor Bloomberg is expected to seek fast-track construction at Ground Zero in his State of the City address today. That's a good thing. The faster construction gets underway, the sooner the area will see the full effects of economic revitalization and businesses will feel more comfortable taking leases and moving downtown.

1010wins notes:
On Thursday he was to propose a faster track for redeveloping the scarred swath of Lower Manhattan, which he says should have multiple projects going simultaneously rather than one by one.
One of the reasons that the projects were going sequentially instead of all at once was because of community resistance to having major traffic tieups due to construction of major portions of Lower Manhattan all at once.

The Gothamist notes that the fasttracking of the WTC is news to Larry Silverstein, who's the leaseholder at Ground Zero. Nice communications.
