And Like That, It Was Gone...

Just four months after vowing to unseat Senator Hillary Clinton, there are big questions tonight about the future of Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro.

Sources tell Eyewitness News she's expected to bow out as soon as tomorrow.
Lucy Yang is here now with the latest.

There are two conflicting messages from the Pirro camp tonight. Officially her spokesperson is insisting that Jeanine Pirro will not not drop out of the senate race tomorrow, but unofficially, sources are saying the Pirro senate campaign is all but over.
What started out with so much promise and had all the hallmarks of a great race has flamed out in only four months. Pirro could never get organized to mount this campaign against Clinton. The NY GOP couldn't get its own house in order, and they have so few statewide candidates that they've got to cannibalize from one race to assist another. The thinking is that they might be able to get Pirro to run for Attorney General.

Instead of taking a shot at Clinton, who is still truly vulnerable against a good candidate, the GOP is calling it quits and essentially conceding the seat to Clinton.

Way to go.

Is there no Republican within the party that can run a campaign? Or run the State GOP?

For the Democrats, this is great news. They can now devote more money to other races that would have otherwise needed to go to the Clinton campaign. One race has repercussions elsewhere, and the NYS GOP is too nearsighted to realize that they have to do better locally if they want to help nationally.
