So, Jeanine Pirro, Westchester County District Attorney looks like she's going to be running against Sen. Hillary Clinton.
Good. That will be the marquee matchup for the 2006 election. Both come into the election with serious credentials, and both have some issues that will need to be addressed. Hillary looks like she might make a run for the 2008 Presidential election, which means she'll bolt her position within a year or two should she be reelected. New Yorkers might not take kindly to that, and her 2000 election was, in part, premised on her fulfilling her 6-year Senate term.
On her part, Pirro comes in with solid criminal law credentials, but her husband has had a checkered past, complete with shady characters, which could come into play.
Expect lots of negative campaigning. And setting new records for advertising spending by all quarters. If Pirro can upset Clinton, it would be a major accomplishment for the NYS GOP, which has lacked a serious statewide candidate and Pirro could be a person to rally around in statewide politics.
UPDATE:
Fixed a typo - It should be Jeanine Pirro, not Jeanne. My bad.
