John Roberts Confirmation Hearings To Begin Monday

Confirmation hearings for John Roberts to assume the role of Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court will begin this coming Monday. Expect lots of blovating and posturing but little substance.

Also, with the death of Chief Justice Rehnquist, a second vacancy on the court needs to be addressed. The leading contender is from New Orleans - Edith Brown Clement. Considering that Roberts is being shifted from O'Connor's seat to Rehnquist's, this would let President Bush fill the seat with someone who not only has ties to the area affect by Hurricane Katrina, but would answer all those cries to fill O'Connor's seat with a woman.

It's almost as though Darth Rove was mysteriously controlling events that enable President Bush to seamlessly address the Court's makeup without any trouble at all. [ed: that last part is sarcasm - as if anyone has any control over natural disasters, the death of a Supreme Court justice, or much else.]
