There's Something Wrong In The World Today

... but I know what it is.

The US media is providing more coverage for the riots resulting from news of Garang's death in Sudan than the genocide that has been ongoing in Dafur, Sudan. We witnessed this media behavior before. Secretary of State Rice's visit got more news for the intemperate treatment her entourage received, not to mention the rough handling of Andrea Mitchell, than the genocide.

There's something wrong with the media coverage when they have more news about the riots than they have had about the years worth of genocide. It's a myopia that is repeated on numerous issues, from the Arab-Israeli conflict, to the War on Terror.

What possible reason or explanation does the media have for failing to cover the genocide? None that I can think of other than that the US media can't be bothered covering this subject, not when there's a Natalee Holloway scoop to be had.

UPDATE:
Zombie proposes an intriguing alternative to myopia, and that is that the Lefties in the media are at a cross-purpose with the Islamic terrorists and their ilk, despite their common goal of destabilizing and overthrowing the US. The Islamists are very clear in their demands, but the Lefties do not want to make their intentions so well known.
