The Phony War

The Phony War at the onset of World War II is a case lesson that appears to have been forgotten today.

The current global war on terror is actually part of a larger conflict between the US and the West versus the Islamists in Iran, Syria, and their allies spread throughout the world. We are not seeing a hot conflict, where armies are arrayed against each other. Instead, we see terrorists flowing into Iraq, where the US destroys whatever terrorists they come across, while incurring casualties from IEDs and suicide bombers.

But, we should not be lulled into thinking that these terrorists are being spontaneously created.

It is part of a larger strategy by the Iranians and Syrians, but especially Iran, to impose its worldview on the larger Middle East, and in due course, to the world itself.

How else can one reconcile the following news items:

Iran Pledges To Strengthen Hizbullah

Meanwhile, those examining the terrorist marketplace in Iraq see increasing signs that the IED marketplace has Hizbullah's signature all over it.

Iran is at war with the US. Actually, Iran has been at war with the US since 1979, when it first invaded the US Embassy in Tehran and held our diplomatic corps hostage for 444 days. Now, we're seeing the war heat up with direct and indirect fire coming from Iranians. Just because the Iranians are using a proxy army in the form of Hizbullah doesn't mean that Iran isn't culpable for their actions.

Nor, does it mean that Iran cannot be held responsible for its actions. They should.

And must.
