Sen. Jon Corzine (D-NJ) seems to be pretty free with the shekels. He gave a boatload to a former girlfriend, who happens to be a major union bigwig, and forgave the loan. That was $470,000, not counting the gift taxes, which would push the total to nearly $600,000.
The Senator also provided significant loans to other individuals. Each was worth more than $250,000, and those loans were also forgiven.
I want a piece of the action.
And if the Senator can't find it in his heart to provide for me, Mrs. Lawhawk would be surely willing to be a recipient of the Senator's goodness.
Oh, and the Newark Star Ledger does not provide the Senator's party affiliation, although they do note that critics are Republicans. Interesting and curious.
UPDATE 8/11/2005:
A loyal readers has pointed out that that the Star Ledger did provide the Senator's party affiliation, though it was buried below the fold. It is often interesting to watch how the media treats politicians embroiled in scandals. Often, Republicans have their party affiliation mentioned in the very first sentence where their name is mentioned, while Democrats often have their party affiliation buried deep in the article, or not at all. All I ask is for some consistency in how politicans are treated. Either include the party affiliation at the first mention of the name, or bury it. Just don't do one way for one political party, and the other way for the other. It's not right, though it makes for fun fodder for bloggers to point out the open and obvious political bias.
