NYT To Israelis: Forget '72

Maccabiah Games Enter New Era but Cannot Erase Memory of '72
What memory of 1972 are Israelis not willing to erase? Simple.

This one, which shows Palestinian terrorists on the balcony of one of the rooms holding Israeli athletes hostage.

Or this one, which shows the bloody result of the Palestinian terrorists having blown up a helicopter after getting into a gun battle with German authorities.

Eleven Israeli athletes were murdered by terrorists whose claimed intention was to free other Palestinian terrorists from Israeli jails.

So why does the NYT choose this particular headline? Because Israel continues to face the existential threat of terrorism that seeks to murder as many people as possible. Except that it isn't only Israelis facing the spectre of terrorism, but Londoners, Americans, and Egyptians. And Saudis, Iraqis, Lebanese, and Indonesians. Aussies, Canadians, and the French. Germans and Italians.

But the Times seems to think that some terrorism ought to go down the memory hole. How else can one read that headline?
