New York City has posted some remarkable overhead photos taken of the City in 1924 and compare them to how the City looked in 2006 and 2008. In particular, here's a shot of Lower Manhattan including the area now occupied by Battery Park City and the World Trade Center. Here's the same shot in 2008.
Among the most significant changes is that the shoreline has been moved further out into the Hudson River and most of the piers have all but disappeared.
It also tracks what construction projects are proposed or underway, including reconstruction of Church Street and Broadway in Lower Manhattan.
For a history junkie, this site is a real glimpse into the remaking of the city I love.
