The Lake Champlain bridge was demolished with high explosives on December 28 because it was found to be obsolete and structurally unsound. A replacement bridge design has been chosen today, and as I figured, it was one of the two arch span designs that won. The modified network tier arch design may have a longer construction time than some of the other designs, but it can be done for lower cost, and is expected to be longer lasting than other designs while being aesthetically pleasing.
There were two arch designs under consideration, and it appears that this was the most popular choice among those polled.
Here were the six choices under consideration.
