On My Nightstand: Islam: The Religion and the People

I consider Bernard Lewis the foremost expert on Islam and the relationship between Islam and the rest of the world. His latest book, Islam: The Religion and the People, is geared as an introductory lesson on the relationship, the similarities, differences, and keys to the relationship between the three major monotheistic religions.

He traces the way Muslims adhere strictly to Islamic law as set forth in the Koran and how deviations from the strict interpretation can have serious repercussions, not only for Muslims but all others who come into contact with Islam.

It's just as insightful as his other works, which includes a history of the Assassins.
