Zero Hour Awaits

Tomorrow afternoon - 4PM Tehran time - is zero hour. It's when Mirhussein Mousavi and his supporters are expected to hold a demonstration in defiance of Ahmadinejad and Khamenei. If they go through with the demonstration, the regime has no choice but crack down.

If they don't, Ahmadinejad and Khamenei have won and their extreme Islamist agenda wins out over his opponents.

This has been playing out for over a week, but Khamenei laid down the gauntlet at this morning's sermons, and that is leading up to this confrontation tomorrow.

Obama has seemingly come around to the position shared by the European Union, those on the left and right of the US polity (save Andrew Sullivan, who still thinks that any action above breathing would be meddling in Iran's election).

It's taken a week, but he's eventually gotten to this point. Curious how he's ended up here. I doubt you'd be far off if you thought that President Obama stuck his finger in the air and saw which way the public opinion was going.

Congress has issued resolutions
condemning the Iranian government's crackdown on protesters. The only vote against that came from the isolationist kook Ron Paul in the House. You know there's bad jobu when Paul and Obama are on the same page.

If the regime survives this, it will purge any and all opponents to its ongoing aggressive Islamist agenda. There will be blood and the government will continue pursuing nuclear weapons and war against the West. Chants of death to America, Israel, the UK, and all the rest will get louder.
